Personal

Núñez is originally from the Dominican Republic but he moved to Costa Rica when he was 14 years old.[2] He received a Costa Rican passport in 2003.[2]

Club career

Nuñez is another player that came out of the minor league system of Deportivo Saprissa, where he played his first seasons. He made his professional debut in a league match against Goicoechea on December 16, 1999.[2]

Nuñez scored his first goal back on October 12 of the 2000 against LD Alajuelense, playing on loan for AD Limonense.[2] He led the domestic goal scoring charts in 2000/01 as well in the last season and his nickname is El Mambo referencing the traditional rhythm of his home country.

He never really earned trust at Saprissa so he was loaned again once he went back to them. After a few bad disappointing seasons with Saprissa but with a high recognition in the country, he was signed by Saprissa's archrival LD Alajuelense. He did not have a lot of options during his first year, so he was, again, loaned to CS Cartaginés and after an amazing campaign he returned to LD Alajuelense and finally became an important piece of the team.

He is a strong and decisive player who has a great ability to dribble rivals and has score amazing goals, he is usually very accurate on his shots.

International career

Nuñez has made 17 appearances for the Costa Rica national football team since he became a Costa Rican citizen,[3] his debut coming in a friendly against South Korea on February 11, 2006.[4] He was part of the Costa Rica squad for 2006 FIFA World Cup held in Germany, making him the first Dominican Republic-born athlete to compete in a FIFA World Cup,.

Most recently, Nuñez has appeared in four qualifying matches for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.[5]
